BAUR colleague Thilo Kraus has recently been appointed district fire officer for the district of Lichtenfels. Here you can find out what diverse tasks he has in this role and how he manages to combine them with his job.
Hello colleagues! My name is Thilo Kraus. I am 48 years old and have been with the BAUR Group for 27 years. During this time, I have worked at many locations, including 23 years as a group leader in logistics. Most recently eleven years as Group Manager for the commercial areas in Sonnefeld. I have now been part of the occupational safety team since March 1, 2024. In my new role as an occupational safety specialist, I am currently in the familiarization phase and am getting to know the various aspects of this important task. I will start my training as an occupational safety specialist in September.
Yes, that's right. The fire department plays an important role in my life. I have been a member of the Altenkunstadt fire department for 34 years. And for the past twelve years, I have also been a member of the district fire brigade inspectorate for the district of Lichtenfels. Over the years, I have held various leadership positions within the fire department: Six years as deputy commander, eight years as commander, seven years as district fire chief and most recently five years as district fire inspector.
My interest in the fire department began in my youth, when I admired the impressive work and dedication of the firefighters. This fascination for serving the community and the willingness to help others in need motivated me to join the fire department.
My commitment to the fire department means a lot to me. It gives me a strong sense of belonging to my community and the knowledge that I am having a positive impact. It's an opportunity to develop skills, encourage teamwork and take on responsibility. Ultimately, it is an honorable job to help people in need and help make our community safer.
The district fire officer must advise and support the district office, the municipalities and the fire departments in matters of fire protection and technical assistance. He must inspect the fire departments and ensure that training events take place. The district fire officer divides the district area into fire department inspection areas in agreement with the district office and appoints district fire chiefs and district fire inspectors. As part of their advisory and support function in accordance with the Bavarian Fire Service Act, the district fire councillors also perform certain tasks of the fire protection service. In this respect, they represent the interests of defensive fire protection, in particular by issuing statements.
