Internship in Corporate Communications - an interview with Lara
Internship in Corporate Communications - an interview with Lara

In this blog post, we introduce you to Lara, who is currently completing an internship in Corporate Communications. She talks about her experiences and provides exciting insights into her day-to-day work.

Hello Lara, would you like to introduce yourself?

Of course! I'm Lara, 22 years old and I recently completed my Bachelor's degree in Media Communication at the University of Würzburg. I'm from Sonnefeld and have been working as a voluntary intern in Corporate Communications at the BAUR Group since March. In my free time, I love listening to audio books and podcasts or reading a good book. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my friends, preferably with a Strawberry Matcha in my hand.

What were your tasks as an intern in Corporate Communications?

One of my main tasks was to provide the intranet with new articles every day. I researched topics, wrote articles and kept track of the editorial plan. I was also able to support the social media team by creating my own posts and blog articles. I particularly liked the fact that I was also able to lend a hand with events and other projects. As a result, the work was very varied and I was able to gain an insight into many areas of responsibility.

Why did you decide to do an internship with the BAUR Group?

I have crossed paths with BAUR several times since the 11th grade: the first time was because of an applicant training course organized by my school. During my studies, I then attended a seminar in which we worked together with external partners and the partner of my course was BAUR. After visiting Weismain for the second time and finding the days so positive, I decided to apply for an internship in Corporate Communications - a department in which I wanted to gain practical experience anyway.

You have now been with us for 6 months - what was your highlight when you look back on that time?

I was able to take part in some cool projects, so it's really hard to limit myself to just one. But what definitely stands out is the business trip to Munich for the Impact of Diversity Award ceremony. Together with the rest of the editorial team of our diversity podcast "Alles bleibt anders", we were able to attend the award ceremony and gain exciting insights into the work of other diversity projects from all over Germany.

What I also remember in particular: When the CEO of the Otto Group, Petra Scharner-Wolff, was a guest in Weismain and Altenkunstadt as part of her Group tour, I accompanied her day for social media. So, together with a photographer, I spent some time on the road with our CEOs. That was pretty exciting!

Last but not least, the big BAUR100 summer night - the anniversary party for all employees! Being involved in the organization of the party beforehand and then experiencing the planned event live was really great.

What advice would you give to students who are also interested in an internship in corporate communications?

Apply and give it a try! Above all, you should be curious and want to try things out. If you enjoy writing and like to try out how to convey content creatively, you will learn a lot here. It's also worth approaching colleagues openly, accepting feedback and experiencing how your own texts and ideas develop.

What else would you like to tell us?

Thank you for the great time and the many experiences I had at the BAUR Group! I had a lot of fun, learned a lot and met great people. I'm looking forward to taking my new knowledge with me to Leipzig for my Master's degree.
