Fire, action and team spirit: The Burgkunstadt, Altenkunstadt and Weismain youth fire departments show what they're made of!

Professional fire brigade weekends: Practical experience for young firefighters

Both the Burgkunstadt and Altenkunstadt youth fire departments recently organized a professional fire brigade weekend, which impressively recreated the everyday life of a professional fire department. During these weekends, a wide variety of activities - including exercises, service sports, training and cooking together - were carried out to give the young people a comprehensive insight into the work of the fire departments.

The BAUR Group has been supporting the voluntary work of the fire departments and their members for many years. For this reason, the Group provided the high-rise building in Burgkunstadt as a training facility in August. As part of this exercise, the young people were woken up by an alarm at 6:15 am. A triggered smoke detector was simulated. The detector had to be located using the fire department's route map, a water supply had to be set up and various exploratory measures had to be carried out.
A similar scenario also took place in Altenkunstadt: On the company premises and in BHF's new shuttle warehouse, the participants also had to locate a simulated smoke detector in the control room and initiate the necessary emergency measures.
The participants gained valuable practical experience.

Michael Kannengießer, the fire safety officer of the BAUR Group and BHF, was impressed by the commitment of the youth fire departments and emphasized the importance of cooperation. Patrick Mantel, Head of Facilities & Support Services, promised continued good cooperation with the Burgkunstadt and Altenkunstadt fire departments in order to motivate and train future firefighters. At the end, the BAUR Group donated cool drinks for all participants.

Major exercise for the fire department action week

At the beginning of September, the youth fire departments from Altenkunstadt, Burgkunstadt and Weismain also held a large joint exercise as part of the Bavaria-wide fire department action week. The week kicked off with a spectacular exercise at the former BAUR furniture store in Bahnhofstraße in Burgkunstadt. After the alarm was sounded, the team transport vehicles, fire engines and water tenders arrived every minute. The young people blocked off the roads and ensured that the access roads were clear and the exercise site was secured at important points such as the Main bridge and the railroad tracks.

The focus was on the realistic scenario of a warehouse fire. The fire engines carried out the initial attack, while additional hose lines were laid to hydrants to ensure the supply of extinguishing water. At the same time, breathing apparatus wearers searched the building and found an "injured person", who was quickly and professionally rescued from the upper floor using the turntable ladder and taken for first aid. Once the exercise had been successfully completed, all the equipment was put back in place.

District fire chief Andreas Leikeim then acknowledged the commitment of the young people and their supervisors in the presence of the district fire inspectorate and other managers from the fire brigades.
He highlighted the motto of the action week "Many faces - one home" and emphasized that the fire department is a community in which everyone is welcome and can make a contribution to their home town.
The fire department action week not only offered the young people the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, but also promoted cohesion and a sense of community across municipal boundaries.

The diverse activities of the youth fire departments show how committed and practical the work of young people is. The young people are optimally prepared for their future tasks and learn how important teamwork, responsibility and commitment are for the community - an important contribution to ensuring operational readiness in the region.

Thanks to the young people for their interest and commitment! 💪
